Employment Act And Application

In the last five years, the Ministry of Manpower introduced significant changes to the labour legislations, regulations and policies in order to ensure that Employment Act remains relevant to the changing trends in the employment / business landscape.

The Employment Act was reviewed and changed in 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2014, whilst, the Retirement and Re-employment Act was changed in 2012.  More changes are expected in the coming years to address the concerns of PMEs, benefits and employment terms for employees on term contract and to make further enhancement to the retirement and re-employment of older employees.

The thrust of the change is aimed to enhance the coverage, employment standards and benefits, moderate demand for foreign manpower, enhance productivity and more importantly ensure that Singaporeans remain the core of our workforce.

These changes are expected to have a profound impact on the employment & business landscape in Singapore and employers may face greater challenges in the employment and management of people and business.

It is therefore, highly critical for employers to implement the changes to maintain compliance and concurrently, take steps to review the constraints on manpower, increased labour cost and the overall impact and future viability of business vermox cena.
